Bubble Painting (2ndGrade)

Materials: paper, bubbles & wand, food coloring, newspaper (Optional: hand held fan, easel)
1.   Use paper to fold fans.
2.   Mix food coloring into individual bottles of bubbles.
3.   Place paper on the table (over newspaper).
4.   Blow bubbles onto the paper to make your painting.
5.   Use fans to control the direction of the bubbles
Colorado State Science Standard:
1.1  Physical Science: Changes in speed or direction of motion are caused by forces such as pushes and pulls.
GLE: Students can: Analyze and interpret observable data about the impact of forces on the motion of objects.
Inquiry Questions: 2. How does applying a force affect the way an object moves? 3. How do an object’s properties affect how it will move when a force is applied?

Engage- Predict what will happen when you fan a bubble.
Explore- Practice steering bubbles with a fan.
Explain- Discuss how you applied force to change the direction of the bubbles.

Elaborate- Add dye to your bubbles. Set a paper target to push your bubbles onto.

Evaluate- Student identifies that they could make bubble art by forcing their bubbles into the direction of the paper either by blowing with their breath, or using a fan.
